Holidays in Spain During Summer and Spring

Spanish people make a big deal of celebrations most especially during the Holy week. For the entire week, several activities are being prepared to tide people over with something to be busy about. Spring times are made memorable because of Good Friday. During these times, processions are widely covered in the streets and in many areas around small and large cities. Other activities worth seeing are reenactments of Christ's crucifixion.

Corpus Christi, or the body of Christ is another important activity that is being held somewhere between the end of spring and the start of summer. This is another Roman Catholic holiday where a celebration is made in honor of the Holy Eucharist's sacrament. As you can see, most holidays in Spain are anchored in the Spain culture, traditions and beliefs, being a country dominated by Roman Catholic.

In either May or June, a festivity of Corpus Christi is celebrated with a bang annually. It falls on a Sunday every after Trinity Sunday. After this event, people prepare and anticipate yet another feast during St. John's day. This falls every 24th and June and celebration starts at the eve of the 23rd. People get their acts together by coming up with bonfires. A traditional activity would be jumping over these prepared bonfires for three times. People believe that doing such will cause them to be purified from their sins. It is also believed that it can help them stay away from impending diseases or provide cure for an acquired disease. Means of celebrating St. John's day may vary from one town proper to another. Small and large cities have different ways to commemorate this day.

Holidays in Spain During Autumn and Winter

After summer and spring, more activities are lined up during both autumn and winter. The 12th day of October is a day in honor of Christopher Columbus. This man is believed to have circumnavigated the earth and that day is remembered as the day whence he set foot to the land of America. Spain consider this day as a national holiday and is extensively celebrated all throughout the country.

Don Juan Tenorio is a must-see play that is staged during All Saints Day on the first of November. Another national holiday is called the Constitution day that is celebrated on the 6th of December. This day meant taking pride in the government's transition to democratic platform. Lastly, January 6 punctuates the Christmas festivities and is more commonly known as Day of the Kings. This is in memoriam of the three wise men's visit to Baby Jesus.
