Guide to Annapurna

Mar-31-2011 By GuestPoster

Nepal has eight of the fourteen mountains, above eight thousand meters located in the country, or at the border of China and India. This is one of the reasons, why it is famous for mountaineering, hiking and trekking. Because of their heights and the adventure they offer to the climbers, Nepal’s mountains are some of the most climbed ones in the world. The highest peaks in Nepal, ranging from the highest in the world to the tenth highest are: Mount Everest or Sagarmatha, Kanchanjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Annapurna. Apart from these, there are more than twenty other mountains that are climbed and  trekked in Nepal. There is one mountain that has not been climbed in this country; it is the Machapuchre, also called the “virgin mountain”, which was restricted by the government from being climbed, due to the religious values it represents for the people. Not long ago, Sagrmatha was left alone, as it is called the Chomolongma or Mother Goddess, by the Sherpas. With the first expedition of George Everest up this mountain, the Sherpas were forced to act as the guides up the harsh mountain, which for centuries had been untouched. Nonetheless, today, they have benefited from this pride of a mountain and are grateful to Mother Nature.

Among, the number of mountains that Nepal houses, Annapurna is a series of mountains that has six major peaks, including Annapurna I, which is the tenth highest peak in the world. Its height is eight thousand and ninety one meters, making it the lowest of the eight thousand meter peaks of Nepal. Annapurna I is also the first mountain peak to be climbed, above eight thousand meters in 1950. Annapurna has an interesting name history, the name means “abundant of food, “if translated directly. However, Annapurna is an avatar of Goddess Durga, and has been called the Goddess of fertility and agriculture.  It is felt that the goddess mountain has kept up her name, by blessing the villages that lie on the borders of Annapurna with abundant food and people. Not only is Annapurna religiously significant, but also ecologically, as she houses endangered flora and fauna of the world, including the Snow leopard and the blue sheep. Because of the abundance of natural beauty, ecological significance, and resources in the area, Annapurna has been incorporated in the Annapurna Conservation Area. It is also well known that Annapurna sees significant number of tourists, both domestic and foreign trekking up and down the route. Similarly, Annapurna I gets many climbers from all over the world; however, it is a hard mountain to trek, because of the occasional avalanches, many climbers have been killed, or have disappeared into the depths of Annapurna.

Long haul travel can be an uncomfortable experience. But while we can't increase seat sizes, bump you up to business class, or make airplane less crowded, we can provide you with some tips to improve your comfort.  In this article we set out some travel accessories that frequent flyers often turn to while on the road.

  • Once you find a comfortable travel pillow it will quickly turn into your constant travel companion.  The best travel pillows are designed to support your head and neck and enable you to sleep without neck strain or head bobbing.  Some of the best designs from an ergonomic point of view are made from memory foam and buckwheat hulls. But many travelers also turn to inflatable neck pillows due to their extreme portability and lightweight design.
  • A warm, thick pair of airplane socks can do wonders for your comfort, especially if your feet have a tendency to swell during the flight.  Even if they don't,you'll find wearing socks far more comfortable than shoes on long distance routes.  When choosing what clothes to wear on board avoid any items that have hard buckles or seams and stick to looser fitting clothing.
  • The headsets provided on airplanes do not provide for a high quality audio experience.  If you find you have to turn up the volume to maximum and press the ear piece to your ears to hear the dialogue on in-flight movies, then it's time to get hold of a pair of noise canceling headphones.  Make sure you also purhcase an adapter set so that you can use the headphones on different airplanes.
  • Airplanes can be cold, especially at night.  It can be hard to get any rest when you're unable to stay warm.  While most airplanes will provide blankets, these can be quite flimsy.  Make sure you either bring your own blanket on board or ensure that you remember to pack a long sleeved sweater or cardigan.
  • When considering what liquid toiletries you are allowed to bring on board with you, remember the 3-1-1 rule.  That should remind you that you're allowed to carry on liquid and gels in three ounce bottles, stored in 1 transparent plastic bag that is no more than 1 quart in size.  Moisturizer, lip balm and toothpaste are good items to have to hand while flying.

Getting the Perfect Golf Vacation

Mar-24-2011 By GuestPoster

I have one teenage daughter and a ten year old son and they both love to play golf. Don't get the idea that they got their love of the game from me, because nothing could be further from the truth. I know how to play the game but only barely. They got it from their mother. I met her when she was starting to compete in professional tournaments and was making a name for herself. Not being a golfing fan, I had no idea about who she was. I just thought that she was lovely. When we got married she quit playing golf to become a full time wife and mother, but her love for the game never disappeared. She taught me how to play it and when our old enough she took them to the driving range and to the golf course. They were able to absorb everything that she taught them, except for me because I really had a hard time learning it. They know everything that should be learned about golf. They know all the swing and all the different golf club components .

Now I want to give them a treat that they will never forget. I want to give them a vacation that would be so memorable they would ant to repeat it every year. Right now I am checking out some of those golf vacation packages that are being offered. You could play golf on some of the best courses in the country and then stay in the best hotels as well. I know that they would enjoy the golf part of the vacation and I'm sure that the first class amenities of the hotels would be a welcome treat for them.

I just can't to surprise them with the news of our vacation for this year.

How To Make The Most of Last Minute Cruises

Mar-24-2011 By GuestPoster

Sometimes it pays not to plan your holiday weeks and months in advance. You can be impulsive and decide to go on a cruise at short notice and discover that it can save you quite a lot of money! That’s because last minute cruises are packages that are offered by cruise companies at heavily discounted prices. As the date of the cruise departure draws closer, the cruise companies begin reducing their fares in a bid to offload all the unsold cabins. For them, it is better to discount fares instead of sailing with empty cabins because quite simply a substantial amount of their profits come from extras like shore excursions, drinks at the bar, massages, sale of souvenirs etc.

Once you are aboard the ship, it doesn’t matter how much or how little you have paid as you will have access to the same luxuries and amenities as all the other passengers. The only thing you may have to compromise on is the location and size of your cabin or stateroom. Chances are that the best cabins would’ve already been sold and you may have to settle for a small cabin with no porthole. But then again, it’s not as if you will spend too much time cooped up in your cabin when there’s so much else to do on the cruise ship. There are restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well as spas and sporting activities to keep you entertained and busy. You will also have to be a bit flexible with your travel dates and be able to set sail at short notice. The duration of most cruises is about a week, although there are also cruises for shorter and longer durations.

The most popular cruise routes are to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Europe and the Far East. So you have plenty of destinations to choose from. Now all you have to do is decide when you want to sail and get ready to enjoy a luxurious holiday at a great price.

You can also explore other great holiday travel ideas for a memorable break.
