The Cotswolds: A Majestic Holiday

Feb-21-2011 By GuestPoster

The Cotswolds is a historic area that sits in West-Central England that is fondly called the Heart of England.  Representing an earlier period of England, the Cotswolds offers regal bath resorts and  comfortable villages.  It mimics life in the time of carriages and crinolines but still has the amenities and comforts of today and easily accessible.

Cotswold's Culture

The AONB officially designated the Cotswold  in 1966.  It is a craggy area dotted with beautiful villages constructed from the characteristic native yellowish limestone. The area's earthy beauty has been enhanced through the years and protected, tourists can enjoy all the  advantages of the flourishing Cotsworlds environment on the Cotswold Way which is a footpath that stretches over 100 miles along the Cotswolds slope.  The view is stunning along the heights of the escarpment.  Cotswold Way connects historical villages and sights, it offers an range of accommodations options along its protected pathway. One may opt for the entire length of the path or parts of it.

Pubs and Bath Establishments

Bath establishments from the regency age are not open for business today but were a flourishing business in the early 19th century in the Cotswolds.  The splendid and glamorous structures remain, observers of a scintillating era of balls and scandals. Yet, some of the more popular and grandiose spa towns are considering the revived interest in holistic medicine as a possibility to using their famous mineral waters.

The Cotswolds provides the time-honored amenities of English life: the community pub and its friendly gatherings, ales, and wines. If you choose to stay in the Cotswolds, there are various types of lodgings available.  You may decide to stay in a farm style bed-and-breakfast, one of the cozy holiday cottages or in a hotel.  Most of these accommodations are pet friendly so you can bring your furry friend along.

What Are Sell Off Vacations?

Feb-18-2011 By GuestPoster

Sell off vacations are last minute travel deals that allow customers to take advantage of under booking.  These deals are typically offered close to the travel date and require travelers to have some measure of flexibility.

Most companies, be they airlines, hotels, or cruise ships, will have some degree of under-booking.  They simply will not be able to sell every space they have every time, and as the date gets closer these companies become more willing to offer a deal.  This means your formerly four thousand dollar luxury cruise with the Cunard Queen Mary 2 might cost less than half that.

The important thing to remember with sell off vacations is flexibility.  You will not be able to choose concrete dates, and may not even be able to choose a concrete location.  Anywhere from a month to a couple weeks before your preferred departure date the company you are booking with may offer you a number of deals for different times and destinations.  If you find one that appeals to you and fits within your budget you can take it.  If there is nothing you want, then you can let it go and try again.

While this can be a great way to get a good deal, it is more difficult to plan around.  Not knowing your exact departure date can make it difficult to arrange things with your job and whoever may be looking after your pets or house while you are gone.  The best option if you don't have a sympathetic employer is to take a little more time off than you think you'll need to give yourself a grace period.

Sell off vacations are a great way to get in some budget travel.  These trips are often less than half what you would pay for full price and may be anywhere from a single plane ticket to an all-inclusive resort package.

No-one wants to spend a lot more than they have to for a hotel suite but at the same time no-one wants to stay in a low quality hotel because it can really put a damper on your trip. Exactly how do you get the very best of both worlds by saving money on price however staying in somewhere incredible? It’s difficult therefore i decided I'd catalog a few recommendations that have aided me personally to find less expensive accommodation.

I’ve often found it strange that people will alter the time of year they go away to cut costs yet not the time of week. Do you know that if you reserve a room for the start of the workweek you will save as much as 40% in comparison to the weekend? When you consider lots of the top sightseeing opportunities may be much less crowded during the week it seems sensible to book when everybody else isn’t!

The city centre will almost always be the most costly area of any location to stay in however what a wide range of consumers don’t realise is that often a city centre hotel may actually save you money. For instance a hotel outside of the city will probably be less expensive however your still going to have to spend on taxi cabs into the city and main locations everyday so is it truly going to end up less expensive? I was a short while ago visiting UK and noticed this to be quite accurate when searching for London hotels, cabs are extremely overpriced.

A few resorts factor in the price of selected cost-free activities like an on location gym or car parking into your overall room price. That is fine if you are going to use these kinds of facilities however if not then it’s a real waste of cash. Numerous features today such as wireless internet access come as standard nevertheless try to focus on the essentials when looking for a cheap hotel. Any time I’m searching for a hotel the primary factors I think about are area, popularity and cost, everything else is really a bonus.

There’s more to choosing an affordable hotel than I have pointed out but hopefully these basics might help when your lost in a big city.

Find a Cheaper Hotel Than Everyone Else

Selecting a hotel is often quite a challenging business, especially if you are in a new city without any local knowledge. Additionally we all have different specifications when researching a hotel with all kinds of things from expense to rating being a consideration. To assist here are a few of my main factors to help you stretch your budget on your next holiday no-matter what area you're visiting.

There are a few excellent reasons to book with a big resort chain such as the Hilton or Best Western. The biggest reason would be the reward plans that numerous big chains have in place so in the event you make multiple bookings with them you will get a free of charge room afterwards. Given that big hotel providers have venues worldwide there is a great deal of incentive to keep your business. Many people are convinced well-known hotels will always be higher priced than less significant independent locations but it’s not always the case, the market for travelers is incredibly competitively priced for all hotels. This will be particularly true for New York Hotels and The United States in general.

Secret booking web-sites are becoming a lot more widespread on the net right now despite the bulk of holidaymakers not necessarily understanding how they work. Fundamentally there are lots of motels and guesthouses with unfilled suites on any given day. By advertising the room on the secret rooms webpage people can bid for the hotel room with just one or two specifics like grading and approximate locale to go by. For some reserving a mystery hotel with so little insight is extremely scary nevertheless the reward for anyone fearless enough is up to around 50% off the regular price.

Virtually all the large chain hotels have online newsletters that permit you to get the latest updates on their top deals. I am aware many people don’t want spam clogging up their inbox however if you are persistent there are many excellent promotions on offer. The principle is just like the mystery rooms websites where hotels have got a surplus of rooms that they need to offload inexpensively and quickly. I know some people who have stayed at in five star hotel rooms for half the regular rate just by registering for latest updates.

So those are my tricks for getting a more affordable place to stay. I hope you can find the best room at the right price tag for you.

With RVs becoming so popular in America, many Americans traveling to England and the rest of Europe will naturally want to hire a Winnebago, Airstream or similar American style motorhome for RVing in England.

Before making arrangements to hire a Winnebago in England, however, it is worth considering the arguments for and against an American style motorhome as opposed to the local alternatives. Here are some of the local factors that can make a difference.

The most obvious difference is that in England they drive on the left hand side of the road, whereas in the USA they drive on the right. Because of this, vehicles in the UK are right hand drive, ie the driver sits on the right hand side of the vehicle, compared with American motorhomes, which are left hand drive.

This would put an American motorhome at a disadvantage for driving in the UK, although it would be better for continental Europe, where they also drive on the right.

However, the driver's door would not be the only one on the wrong side of the RV, and it would be an additional risk if your children had to get out into the middle of the road instead of the sidewalk.

Bigger American style RVs, designed for the wide straight roads of North America, can also be difficult to turn and maneuver on the narrower roads of Europe. If you're thinking of touring Devon or Cornwall, for example, many roads are single lane, walled with hedges and with narrow bends.

You will also need to get a class C truck driver's license for an RV that weighs more than 7.5 tonnes.

Fuel will be more expensive too, since American motorhomes are designed with American fuel prices in mind, and use more petrol or diesel than their European equivalents.

And if you do happen to need repairs, it could be more difficult and expensive to find an experienced mechanic and ship the parts from America than it would be to fix a locally made motorhome.

However, once you set up camp, the American motorhome comes into its own. Most will have slide out sides, to offer you enough living space for separate bedrooms and dining areas, and even roof top seating areas.

They will also usually have central heating and air conditioning, a generator, TVs and kitchen appliances, showers and waste hookups, auto leveling air jacks, air suspension and automatic transmission.

The choice is yours then: whether you'd rather travel more conveniently while touring, or stay in more luxury while camping, but either way, the freedom of a road trip is a great way to travel in the English countryside.
