Rome Vacations You Just Can't Pass Up
Everyone should travel to Rome at least once in their life. The capital city of Italy is not only full of history, it is also bustling with modern life. With hundreds of Rome hotels, shops and restaurants for tourists and citizens alike to spend their time at, and enough museums and ruins for the most ardent history buff, anyone can find something to enjoy during a trip to Rome. The native Italians are playful and friendly, always willing to give directions or practice their English on non-Italian speakers and as an international city food, language and ex-pats from every country can easily be found for anyone feeling homesick.
It's not unusual to bump into someone on the streets of Rome that was last seen halfway across the world. It's that kind of city. Celebrities also roam the city, shopping and living the high life. As the set for many movies and books, the art and film buffs can easily spend days wandering from location to location that was previously only seen on a screen or read about.
The Italian seaside is only a few hours away, as are the Apennine Mountains, so skiing and sunbathing are both accessible from Rome. For the more introspective the city is covered in beautiful churches and ancient Roman ruins, opening not a window but a barn door to a glimpse of history. Many of the world's most powerful men are found in Rome, from Italian government heads to Catholic Church leaders who live at the Vatican. There aren't many cities in the world as old as Rome, nor many empires who spread further and managed to survive to the current day.
Religious or not, historian or not, anyone can have fun in Rome. Vespas with Italian teens doubled up on them zip around and couples eating out of this world Italian ice cream stroll hand in hand down the streets. Not even New York has better pizza and Italian desserts are second to none in the world. Tiramisu anyone? Everyone deserves at least one trip to Rome.
