1. Fez

Step into Fez and find yourself in a world where the medieval and the modern exist side by side. Fez el Jédid ("the New") is the modern part of Fez whereas Fez el Bali ("the Old") is one of the world's best-preserved medieval cities. Amidst the sprawling streets, you can find stalls selling intricate handicrafts, leather goods, copper and brassware. Visit the Bou Inania Madersa, a fourteenth century religious college with breathtaking architecture, or the Dar-Batha museum, which features, among other things, an amazing Moroccan ceramic collection. You may also enjoy visiting the Kairaouine mosque, which was previously the largest mosque in Africa. Fez is also famous for its cuisine.

2. Marrakech

Just like Fez, Marrakech has two distinct areas: the Medina, or historical city, and the new city. Choose to reach your destinations on foot or by caleche - a small, horse-drawn carriage. There are also open-topped buses that take you around the city while providing commentaries. Places to visit in Marrakech include the famous Dar Di Said museum as well as Djemma El Fna, a popular town square that comes to life at night with shops, musicians, dancers and storytellers. The souks, or markets, are also worth a visit. For a little indulgence, visit Les Bains de Marrakech, an internationally acclaimed spa where you will be pampered to your heart's content.

You can arrange a trek with any of the local guides at your own convenience.

4. Casablanca

This beautiful city is the modern face of Morocco, yet it is still charmingly quaint. The Casablanca Central Market and Habbous Souk District are two places that are bustling with activity, and will thrill you with their assortment of delectable products and fascinating goods. The Hassan II mosque, one of the largest in the world, is stunning and captures the attention of all visitors. Those who prefer the nightlife must visit the Corniche, which has beaches, swimming pools, bars, restaurants and hotels. Oualidia, a small village, is known for its oysters and is a necessary stop for aspiring connoisseurs.

5. Tangiers

For centuries, poets and artists have fallen in love with Tangier, and it is easy to understand why. Tangiers is beautiful and offers a host of unique experiences. Head to Cape Malabata before dawn to see a breathtaking sunrise, and then, later in the day, to Cape Spartel to see the setting sun. Explore Hercules' underground cave, where he is said to have rested after completing his works. The Diplomatic Forest nearby is not only serenely beautiful, it is also a favorite place for hiking, picnic and sports.

Visit the gardens of Mendoubia for a walk amidst ancient trees and for a look at the Forbes Museum. Here, 115 000 lead soldiers reenact major historical battles in front of you. Be amazed by the architecture and grandeur of the many stunning mosques. If you are visiting in August, make it a point to go to the Pasha Raïssouni palace, where artists all over the world will exhibit their work. Whatever you choose to do there, visiting Tangier is sure to be an experience you will never forget.
